Scott Gillen / Unvarnished Unveils The Castle at $75m16 Jan Mike Gardner
Scott Gillen, the serial spec. builder of all things cool, has unveiled his latest and greatest Malibu project to date listing it in the MLS at $75,000,000 ……$75,000,000 you say? Yes and don’t doubt the price or bet against this guy. He’ll prove you wrong time and time again.
With a 10 year track record of building Malibu homes, then selling at a price above what most thought was possible, Scott has proved that if he builds it, they will come. And more often then not, they’ll come in droves often selling a home before it’s even finished. He did this with The Who project selling 3 of 4 houses in the $7m to $11.5mm range before they were even finished. Exactly why The Castle is up for sale now while it’s being framed.
From the MLS…..” THE CASTLE by Scott Gillen/UNVARNISHED. Situated on one of Malibu’s landmark sites adjacent to Serra Retreat, this 360 degree promontory offers some of the best views available overlooking Malibu Colony, Surfrider Beach, Serra Retreat and head on views of the Santa Monica Bay and Catalina Island. Completely private at the end of the cul-de-sac is an over 400 foot long private double gated driveway which leads you to the most impressive construction Malibu has to offer. 5 bedroom main house with 120′ long great room that opens to the 70′ infinity pool and jaw dropping ocean views. Custom Teak doors and cabinetry throughout, 80 year old aged Oak floors, a Bulthaup kitchen and Crestron home automation are just a few of the high end features. Main house also includes a day-lighted basement with media room and game room + staff quarters. Detached 4,000 SQ.FT. guest house with 2 bedroom suites, large great room and kitchen plus a full gym and spa. Turnkey with custom furnishings included.”
I caught up with Scott recently asked a few questions about the project.
MREB:What makes this house different than any project you’ve attempted before?
Scott Gillen: The rooms are very large in this home with custom Bulthaup cabinets from Germany. You will find teak detail through out the entire home. The main living space in the home offers an open living space concept, while still maintaining an intimate environment from one another.
MREB: You’ve been sharing bits and pieces on Instagram for months. Any interest yet from potential buyers?
Scott Gillen: Since the article in the Wall Street Journal we have received a lot interest in this property.
MREB:What’s next for you, an international project?
Scott Gillen: Continuing to build once in a lifetime homes and carrying out the Unvarnished legacy.
